Indonesia Seeks US$721.5M Funds for Tanjung Kelayang SEZ

JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Indonesian government developed another special economic zone (SEZ), aims to attract investors. Built on 324 hectares area, Indonesia eyes US$721.5 million (Rp10.3 trillion) investment from Tanjung Kelayang tourism SEZ in Belitung Island, Bangka Belitung Province, said an official statement today (03/14).

President Joko Widodo said, Tanjung Kelayang tourism has given a significant contribution to original regional revenue to Bangka Belitung Islands Province. It made the province’s revenue rocketed around 300 percent, told media in inaugurated the Tanjung Kelayang SEZ today.

In 2025, Indonesia government eyes Rp20 trillion investment when the Tanjung Kelayang SEZ fully operated. It’s estimated to attract 59.000 tourists annually with Rp751.4 billion economical value and absorb 23.645 workers.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution, said the Tanjung Kelayang SEZ is developed to be an economy transformation instrument for Bangka Belitung people, from tin mining to tourism.

Moreover, he expects the area to be a world-class tourism destination. International hotel networks such as Starwood Asia Pacific dan Accor Asia Pacific have invested in Tanjung Kelayang.

“Tanjung Kelayang special economic zone location is very strategic, because it is in Belitung Island, geographically between Jakarta and Singapore, which is marked as a captive market target,” Nasution said.

He hoped that Tanjung Kelayang SEZ can be realized as expected. So it can give maximum and sustainable benefit, also increase foreign exchange (forex) from the tourism sector.

The Secretary of SEZ National Board Enoh Suharto Pranoto, mentioned his party is now assessing two more areas in Bangka Belitung Province, Sungailiat in Bangka district and Tanjung Gunung in Central Bangka district. Those spots, he added, expected to be assigned as SEZs soon.

Recently, Indonesian government has determined 12 areas to be SEZs, consists of 8 manufacture zones and 4 tourism zones. Among those, there are 6 that have been operating, Sei Mankei, Tanjung Lesung, Palu, Mandalika, Galang Batang, and Arun Lhokseumawe.
