JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (CEC) opens the opportunity to call on the Minister of Religion Lukman Hakim Saifuddin regarding the alleged bribery case of buying positions in the Ministry of Religion against the former Chair of the Persatuan Pembangunan Party (PPP) who is also a member of the House of Representatives Romahurmuziy.

“The possibility is open as long as it takes the investigators. Moreover, there are several documents and money that have been secured or confiscated from the Ministry of Religion today,” said the agency spokesman Febri Diansyah in  Jakarta, on Monday (03/18).

In addition to Saifuddin’s room, the Anti-graft Investigators searched the room of the Ministry of Religion’s Secretary General and the Head of the Ministry of Religion’s Civil Service Bureau. The agency also confiscated a number of documents at the PPP Central Leadership Office. The document was related to administrative information and Romahurmuziy’s position as PPP General Chair. After the search, the agency will usually summon parties related to the search.

Diansyah said, the agency was still conducting searches in a number of locations and continued to explore cases of job selection bribery in the Ministry of Religion. “We will continue to explore the alleged acceptance of bribes that have been determined by three suspects and other information related to handling this case,” he said.

Romahurmuziy was previously determined by the CEC as a suspect in the alleged bribery case for filling positions in the central and regional Ministry of Religion. The total bribe allegedly received by Romahurmuziy was valued at Rp 300 million.

In addition to Romahurmuziy, the agency determined the Head of Gresik Regency Ministry of Religion Muhammad Muafaq Wirahadi and Head of East Java Ministry of Religion Regional Office Haris Hasanuddin as a suspect.

The agency said Muafaq allegedly gave Rp 50 million on Friday (03/15) to Romahurmuziy, while Haris was alleged to have given Rp 250 million to Romahurmuziy on February 6, 2019.

The agency thinks Romahurmuziy violates Article 12 letter a or letter b or Article 11 of the Corruption Law in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code. While Wirahadi and Hasanuddin were suspected of violating Article 5 paragraph 1 letter a or letter b or Article 13 of the Corruption Law in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 of the first Criminal Code.

The search for the Minister of Religion’s workspace also happened in 2014, precisely on May 22. The office of the Minister of Religion – which was then held by Suryadharma Ali – was searched for about 27 hours by the agency after Ali was named a suspect in the management of the Hajj fund.

The Director-General of Hajj and Umrah Organizations Anggito Abimanyu, Secretary General, and the Hajj Communication System room were also not spared from the agency search. At that time, the CEC investigators brought one large transparent plastic cardboard box, two brown cardboard boxes, and one travel bag

In the course of his case, exactly 11 January 2016, the former PPP Chairperson was sentenced to 6 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 300 million subsidiaries 3 months in prison and replacement money of Rp. 1.821 billion. He was considered proven to have misused his authority as Minister of Religion in organizing the Hajj.

At the appeal level, the panel of judges aggravated the sentence to 10 years in prison, fined Rp. 300 million, and revoked his political rights for 5 years.
