EU grants $19.52 mln to help Indonesian exporters | Sector data

(The Insider Stories) — The European Union (EU) is providing up to 15 million euros in a grant to finance the Trade Support Program II (TSP II) that aims to help Indonesian exporters penetrate the EU market.

Under TSP II Indonesian companies are taught how to meet international trade standards set by EU nations.

Coordinated by the Trade Ministry, the project includes training and technical support, and will run from 2011 to 2014, The Jakarta Post reports.

Results achieved under TSP I, implemented between February 2006 and April 2008, included an increase in approved fisheries exporters to the EU to 176 in 2011 from 109 in 2007, it says.

While Indonesia had a $7.43 billion trade surplus with the EU last year, the contribution of the bloc to total exports has fallen to 14% from 18% over the last 10 years, Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan is quoted as saying.
