Law firm Bird & Bird looking at Indonesia as part of Asia expansion – report | Company data

(The Insider Stories) – Law firm Bird & Bird is looking to expand more in Asia and may open in Indonesia and South Korea while also increasing its presence in Malaysia, a report says.

The UK outfit is reportedly looking for cooperation opportunities to do energy and corporate law work in Indonesia, and intellectual property and technology work in South Korea, while relocating partners from Asian offices to Malaysia to focus on knowledge transfer and joint marketing at its partnership with Tay & Partners with the country planning to open the market to international law firms in June, according to Legalweek.com.

Bird & Bird wants its Asia practice to account for 20% of revenues and lawyer headcount in the next three to five years, it says. It recently signed a cooperation agreement with law firm Truman Hoyle in Sydney and may merge the company in the next 12 months, and is also considering opening a practice in Melbourne that may focus on IP, it says.
