President officiates NPCT 1 terminal, renews call to cut dwelling time

JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – President Joko Widodo renews call on the state owned port operator PT Pelindo II (Indonesia Port Coporation/IPC), the operator of Tanjung Priok port, to further reduce dwelling time – loading and unloading waiting time.

“Competition among countries is intensifying. Every country is developing, embarking on innovation, build new faciltiies to improve competitiveness. We have to do the same, otherwise we will be left behind. We don’t want to lose in this competition,” President Joko Widodo said.

The President made the statement when officiating Kalibaru Container Terminal at Tanjung Priok Port (NPCT 1), Jakarta. He calls on all parties to catch up with other countries to improve Indonesia’s competitiveness level.

The development of NPCT1 is also part of the government’s efforts to boost Indonesia’s competitiveness in regional and global trade.

The President also calls on Pelindo II to accelerate the development of the phase two and three of the container terminal. He said dwelling time in the port needs to further cut to two days from 3.2-3.7 today and seven days two years ago. The move to reduce dwelling time in other ports also needs to be further cut, he said.

NPCT 1 was built on 32 hectares of land and has the capacity to process 1.5 million TEUs per annum and containers with capacity of 13,000-15,000 TEUs with vessels weight of over 150,000 deadweight ton (DWT). (*)
