JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) - President Joko Widodo at midday meets with former President and Chairman of Democratic Party (PD) Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY). Both discussed various issues related with national politics and economy, but not specific issues such as governor elections or the e-KTP mega scandal which is allegedly implicating politicians of major political parties.
“We talk many things about national politics, national economy. General discussions on many issues,” President Joko Widodo told reporters after the meeting.
The meeting was held as the trial of e-KTP mega scandal kicks off today and the DKI Jakarta governor-vice governor election second round campaign enters second day.
Both has light discussion at the back of the State Palace while drinking tea, which is seen by many as symbolic meeting, rather than focusing on substance and technical issues.
When asked about Democratic Party’s stance toward the government, Yudhoyono said, “there was no talks on technical issues.”
The former President said he praised the President for his success in welcoming the visit of Saudi Arabia King and IORA Summit held in Jakarta this week. He said he, like the President, has the same commitment to do the best for this nation.
He added the meeting was also a good moment for both to clear the air and clarify some issues. Prior to the first round of Jakarta Governor election, in which Yudhoyono’s son became one of the Governor candidate, Agus Yudhoyono, the former president often criticized the Joko Widodo government in dealing with demonstrations.
Democratic Party is yet to make a decision who the party support in the upcoming second round of DKI Jakarta governor-vice governor election, whether Anis-Sandy pair or Basuki-Djarot pair. (*)
