JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) - Good Morning! The European Union decided to take an additional 100 million doses of the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine and will have 300 million doses soon, said the president, Ursula von der Leyen. While, Britain recorded more than 53,235 have tested positive cases in 24 hours, marking a new record daily increase in the country.

The total number of cases in the country now stands at 2.38 million. Another 414 have died within 28 days of a positive test, bringing the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in Britain to 71,567.

In the United States (US), treasury secretary, Steven Mnuchin, announced that US$600 stimulus checks begin arriving in people’ bank accounts as soon as Tuesday evening and will continue arriving into next week. The government will begin mailing out paper checks today without government-registered bank accounts.

While, the Senate is set to reconvene, a day after the House approved a motion to raise the direct payments from $600 to $2,000. Some Senate Republicans have expressed support for increasing the payments. Those votes will determine control of the Senate for the next two years.

In Indonesia, the Jakarta provincial government led by Anies Baswedan aims to pull the emergency brake following the rising COVID-19 cases in the capital city. The health agency announced there had been 2,056 new additional cases recorded on Dec. 29 and 1,391 of the new cases were found from 13,921 specimens tested through Polymerase Chain Reaction.

Its also recorded that there are 15,077 active cases in Jakarta with a total of 179,660 cases of infection and 3,246 patients passed away (1.8 percent mortality rate) since March 2020 due to the virus. The agency said that the city’ current positive infection rate remains at 12.1 percent while on the national level at 8.7 percent, which is far beyond the WHO’ standard of 5 percent.

While the health ministry announced, as many as 1.8 million dosages of COVID-19 vaccines will be arriving between Dec. 30 to Jan. 1, 2021 from China. Beside, the country also expect the vaccines from Pfizer and AstraZaneca followed in the first half of this year.

Today is the last transactions in Indonesian financial market. After corrected 0.94 percent to 6,036.17 compared to previous day, on Wednesday the Jakarta Composite Index is estimating move in the range 6,009.10 to 6,157.11. Then, Indonesian Rupiah between 13,950 - 14,100 against the Greenback after closed up 0.18 percent to 14,130 per US Dollar.

Today, the local currency has the potential to strengthen after US’ President Donald Trump signed a stimulus law worth of $2.3 trillion. The US Senate, which is now preparing to vote on the additional stimulus amount received by each Americans is also become a positive catalyst for both instruments.

The negative sentiment also came from falling prices for several commodities, such as coal by 1.35 percent and nickel 0.85 percent, which has the potential to pull down the price of shares related to these commodities.
