JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – The new head of National Disaster Management Agency Lieutenant General Doni Monardo promised to arrange master disaster management program for Indonesia. He also promised to complete several areas affected by the disaster like in Lombok, Palu, Banten, Lampung, Cisolok, and Sukabumi.

From the results of studies and research by a number of experts in the field of disaster, he said, there were a number of megathrust potentials in several regions in Indonesia. This, said Monardo, must be conveyed to the public in appropriate ways, so that all regions which will become potential disasters have prepared themselves.

“Hopefully this will reach the village level, even to the lower level of society,” he told reporters after the inauguration at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday (01/09).

In the weeks several disaster hit the country. After the landslide in Sukabumi regency, West Java on Dec. 31, Yesterday (01/08), the earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 Skala Richter with depth of 10 km hit the region city. Although did not have a tsunami potential, the vibration perceived into Tasikmalaya and Bandung in West Java also Jakarta areas.

Indonesia Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics also reported, at the same time, the earthquake also occur in the Malang, East Java, with a magnitude of 3.9. On Monday (01/07), there were three earthquakes with different magnitude forces shaking the territory of Indonesia.

The first earthquake in West Halmahera was followed by a second earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0 Scala Richter. The tectonic earthquake with Magnitude 6.5 also rocked North Halmahera District in North Maluku Province.

According to authority data, the earthquake was generated by rock deformation with a mechanism of movement from the thrust fault structure. This earthquake shock was reported to be felt in Manado, Bitung, Siau, Naha, Tobelo, and Galela areas in Sulawesi. Based on the monitoring, showed 18 aftershock earthquakes, but no tsunami and physical damage.

On the same day, an earthquake also rocked the area of West Manggarai in East Nusa Tenggara. This earthquake does not have the potential to tsunami, but the vibration is felt in Bima, West Nusa Tenggara.

Two days before, Saturday (01/05), in the South Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province, an earthquake was also took place. Data from Ternate authority says there are 21 tectonic earthquakes with varying magnitudes, between 3-4 magnitudes with an average depth of 10 kilometers. The tectonic earthquake had no tsunami potential and no earthquake damage.

Responding to the case, the agency revealed that next year the procurement of earthquake detectors (seismographs) will be added to the budget, said Deputy Geophysics Division of agency, Muhammad Fadly.

Indonesia has 175 seismographs to detect earthquakes that operated since 2006, but not maintained. However, this number is still not ideal because Indonesia needs at least 1000 tools throughout the country.

It can be seen from Japan whose small than Indonesia, but has 1,500 detection devices. Therefore, he hopes that next year the authority will be able to add the detector to 200.

In addition, state institutions coordination has also been seen to be resolved, because the agency can only detect tsunamis caused by earthquakes. Whereas the causes of volcanoes or landslide are not monitored. So that in the future Center of Volcanology of EMR ministry can enter into the disaster detection network.
