6.4SR Earthquake Hits Bali and East Java, Kills Three Peoples

JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4SR shook the East Java and Bali regions on Thursday (11/10) at 01.57 local time, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency reported. Three peoples died and several house were damaged.

Its said, the earthquake epicenter was located at coordinates 7.47 LS and 114.43 BT, or precisely located at sea at a distance of 55 km northeast of Situbondo City in East Java Province at a depth of 12 km. The earthquake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami.

The National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure has confirmed the impact of the earthquake on the East Java Province.The worst area is in Gayam District, Sumenep Regency, East Java.

According to the spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho the victim died due to a collapsed building. He explained, the earthquake occurred early Thursday, when the victim was sleeping suddenly the earthquake shook and the house collapsed so that the victim could not save himself.

The 6.4SR earthquake which was later updated to 6.3SR by the agency was felt throughout the East Java region including the district and city of Situbondo, Jember, Banyuwangi, Lumajang, Probolinggo, Bondowoso, Sumenep, Pamekasan, Sampang, Bangkalan, Pasuruan, Batu, Malang, KBlitar, Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Jombang, and Mojokerto.

The earthquake shock was felt quite strongly by the people in Sumenep and Situbondo for 2-5 seconds. People pour out of the house. While in other areas the earthquake was felt to be moderate for 2-5 seconds.

In general, he said, there is not much damage due to the earthquake.
