Indonesia’s GEC Determines Two Presidential Candidates Races in 2019 Election

JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Indonesian General Election Commission (GEC) officially determines Joko Widodo-Maruf Amin and Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno as definitive presidents and vice presidents candidates in 2019 Presidential Election.

“Plenary session of General Election Comission determine two pairs of candidates who have registered to us, namely Joko Widodo-Maruf Amin, and Prabowo Subianto -Sandiaga Salahudin Uno have meet requirements as participants in the 2019 President and Vice President Election,” said chairman of GEC Arief Budiman at his office in Jakarta on Thursday (20/09).

According to him, the decision is stipulated in GEC Decree Number 1131 /FL. 02/ 2.Kpt/06/1x/2018 issued on Sept. 20, 2018. The decree will be given to the National Police Chief Tito Karnavian. Then the police will start to safeguard the two pairs who will contend in 2019 presidential election.

“Its in line with Law Number 7 Year 2017 and Presidential Decree Number 31 Year 2004 on the security and safeguarding of president and vice president candidate,” he said.

Beside that, GEC also determine the final list of candidates of 7,968 candidates of  parliament’s members based on GEC Decree Number 1129/PL.04-Kpt/06/1x/2018. While on the final list of  Regional Representatives Council candidates there are 807 candidates in 34 electorate.

Separately, Deputy Chief of National Police Ari Dono Sukamto admitted that he has provide 452 personnel to safeguard the two pairs of president and vice president candidates in 2019 election.

“National Plice headquarter has done a selection on the security of president and vice president candidates. We then deploy 452 personnel for  tight security,” said Sukamto.

Followed the definitive candidates, on Friday (21/09) GEC will announce presidential candidate serial number and start the campaign on Sept. 23 until April 8, 2019.
