JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories)–The opposition camp is expected to officially declare endorsement for Prabowo Subianto’s presidential ticket and his running mate today.

After weeks of back-and-forth negotiations between presumptive members of the opposition, the list of candidates to become Subianto’s vice president has narrowed down to Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) and Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno.

AHY is the eldest son of former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who chairs the Demokrat Party that has expressed an interest to support Prabowo’s ticket and as well as the opposition camp. Meanwhile, Uno is a Gerindra cadre with a business background who has been part of the financiers to the party.

AHY’s nomination was proposed by the Demokrat, a potential newcomer to the opposition group, while Uno’s was included in the list of Subianto’s VP candidates very recently that was proposed by “an interest group outside of the coalition” according to Gerindra’s executive members.

“[Of all the candidate names] the list has recently narrowed down to only two names, AHY and Sandiaga,” Gerindra secretary-general Ahmad Muzani said in the early hours on Thursday after hours of closed-door meeting with party elites, including Subianto.

Muzani explained that Subianto was still discussing the matter with leaders of the political parties in the coalition. He was reluctant to discuss the matter any further, assuring that negotiations were still ongoing.

However, Uno has appeared as the strongest candidate.  According to Prabowo’s brother Hashim Djojohadikusumo, Prabowo is set to announce Uno’s nomination later today at the former’s residence in South Jakarta.

“It will be announced later this evening,” Djojohadikusumo said shortly in responding to reporters’ queries on the matter on the sidelines of a meeting with Uno at the City Hall on Thursday.

His statement came only hours after Subianto met Yudhoyono at the latter’s house. Both Prabowo and Yudhoyono were reluctant to talk to the press after their closed-door talk that run around one hour.
