ZTE wins Indonesian IPTV contract | Company data

(The Insider Stories) — Chinese telecommunications equipment provider ZTE has secured a four-year IPTV network construction contract with PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (TLKM).

ZTE will construct, operate, and maintain the low-bit-rate Indonesian internet protocol television network, from this year until 2016, and will provide system equipment and set-top boxes, according to media reports.

Telegeography.com reports that Telkom launched its Groovia IPTV service in 2011, aiming it at subscribers to its Speedy broadband service and said last March it was planning to launch an over-the-top offer.

It says Telkom had almost 6,000 IPTV subscribers by early 2012, estimated to have risen to 30,000 by the end of the year. It reports Telkom has been seeking a strategic partner to help develop the pay-TV business of its subsidiary TelkomVision.

ZTE has offices around the world including in Europe and Asia Pacific. Telkom is the largest fixed line operator in Indonesia.
