INSIDER HEADLINE: Sriwijaya Air to Establish Full Service Carrier Unit -Report

13 March (The Insider Stories) - Private airline PT Sriwijaya Air plans to set up a full-service subsidiary called Nam Air, Investor Daily reported Wednesday.

Sriwijaya Air commercial director Toto Nursatyo was quoted by the paper as saying the company applied to the transportation ministry for permission to set up Nam Air in early February and is also awaiting an Air Operator’s Certificate, which may take six months to be issued.

Djoko Murjatmodjo, a director general for aviation at the ministry, said besides Nam Air is there are three other airlines that are expected to be issued licences this year: Batik Air, a full-service unit of Lion Air, Jatayu Air and Kartika Airlines.

Batik Air is the only one of the four that has already secured a business licence, but it is still awaiting an AOC, which is needed by an airline to use aircraft for commercial operations.
