Maintenance Triggers Blackouts in Timika – Kompas
March 18 (The Insider Stories) — The Timika region in Papua, Indonesia’s easternmost province, has been experiencing blackouts for several weeks amid maintenance of several power generators, Kompas newsportal reported Monday.
Semuel Farwas, the region’s manager at state-electricity firm PLN, was quoted as saying that maintenance of three generators has created a power shortage equals to 1.8 MW. He has requested to PLN’s head office to rent generators of up to 3 MW to tackle the shortage.
PLN serves 26,000 households and businesses in Timika, a region with peak electricity use of 17.1 MW.
