INSIDER HEADLINE : Industries in West and Central Java to Face Natural Gas Shortage This Year -Kontan
March 14 (The Insider Stories) — Industrial companies in West Java and Central Java provinces will face a shortage of natural gas this year, a similar situation to their peers in North Sumatra province, Kontan newsportal reported Thursday.
The forecast gas deficit is due to lower supply and lack of infrastructure such as pipelines, Gunung Sardjono Hadi, the president of state-controlled gas distributor Pertagas, was quoted as saying.
He estimated that businesses on Java island require a total of 2,491 million standard cubic feet of gas a day, while available supply is only 1,913 mmscfd. He forecast gas shortages to persist until at least 2020 as Indonesia has long-term contracts mandating natural gas exports to countries such as Singapore and Japan.
