INSIDER HEADLINE : Bank Indonesia to Set Up Benchmarking for Risk Premium
March 14 (The Insider Stories) — Indonesia’s central bank is setting up a risk premium benchmark as part of efforts to bring down stubbornly high local lending rates, Kontan newsportal reported Thursday.
Risk premiums — percentages added by commercial lenders on top of base lending rates — vary widely but are typically between 0.3% and 9.8%. Bank Indonesia is aiming to push lenders to narrow this range to 5%-10% for rural banks and 0.3%-3% for major commercial banks, Kontan said.
