JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati were being reported to Election Supervisory Body for directing International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde to pose using index finger, allegedly related to President Joko Widodo’s vote number for 2019 general election.

A civilian who reported the case, accused these two ministers have violated state officials neutrality in the election and did covert campaign. “We accompanied our client to submit complaint to the agency office related to election violation that’s allegedly benefiting Widodo,” said Nusantara Advocacy Team member, Taufiqurrahman on Thursday (18/10).

He added, the IMF-World Bank closing event was used to show Panjaitan and Indrawati alignments on one pair of candidate, as they seemed to steer Lagarde to pose raising index fingers in a photo session.
According him, the ministers allegedly have violated Article 282 juncto Article 238 Paragraphs (1) and (2) juncto Article 547, in Law Number 7 of 2017 about elections. They can face three years imprisonment and Rp36 million (US$2,482.75) fine.
In IMF-World Bank closing event, the index finger-pointing pose not only done by Lagarde, Luhut, and Mulyani, but also World Bank President Jim Yong Kim and Bank of Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo.
At first, Lagarde and Kim posed with peace sign—two fingers pointing—while Luhut and Mulyani pointed 10 fingers. Luhut changed to pointed his index finger, then his thumb.
Audience were aroused seeing their poses, especially when Lagarde raised the peace sign fingers. Seeing the audience response, Lagarde and Kim changed their pose, raising index finger. At that time, their conversation heard clearly on television.
Indrawati asked Luhut so Lagarde changed her two fingers-sign. “Not two,” Indrawati told Lagarde and Kim.
Panjaitan reacted with suggesting Lagarde to raise one finger in the photo session. “Not two, not two,” he said also while laughing. Lagarde and Kim followed.
“Two is for Prabowo, one is for Jokowi,” shouted Mulyani to Lagarde.
Responded the accusation, Widodo-Ma’ruf Amin national campaign team deputy chair, Abdul Kadir Karding doesn’t see that as part of the campaign. But he also reminded officials to be more careful in acting in front of public.
Due to political event, many things can be used by the irresponsible, he addded. “Officials must be careful. Don’t joke around. Even when I raise my index finger at school, it can be risky,” said Karding.
On the other hand, he asked the General Election Commission to be more intensive in socializing the rules, seeing there are many regulations such us the campain period, system, props, location, and others. According to him, 2019 general election will be the most complicated compared to the previous elections.
