JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) - The number of foreign tourist jumped by 13.90 percent in November compared to the previous month, the Statistic Indonesia reported today. But, according to the bureau, the amount fell sharply 86.1 percent compared to last year.

The deputy, Setianto also reported, during January – November, the number of visitors to the country reached 3.89 million tourists or decreased by 73.60 percent when compared to the the same month in 2019, which totaled 14.73 million visits.

The average length of stay of foreign and Indonesian guests at the hotels during last month was recorded at 1.59 days, or a decrease of 0.19 points when compared to November 2019. The occupancy rate in average 40.14 percent or dropped by 18.44 points compared to 2019, which was recorded at 58.58 percent. Conversely, the rate had an increase of 2.66 points from October.

In the meeting with all his staff last week, the tourism and creative economy minister, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, said to improve Indonesian tourism are needed to accelerate the recovery of five super priority destinations like Lake Toba, Likupang, Borobudur, Mandalika, and Labuan Bajo by implementing Cleanliness, Healthy, Safety, and Environment Sustainability.

Furthermore, the deputy chairman of Gerindra Party, also reminded all local governments to not only move quickly, but “full gas” to recover the tourism and the creative economy. Currently, he noted, there are 30 million actors in the tourism and the creative economy sectors who have been slumped due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Long-term recovery, added the former deputy governor of Jakarta, can be done by growing supplies which include preparation of tourist destinations, building infrastructure, creating and building attractions, monitoring the health protocol in each tourist destination, improving the quality of human resources, and increasing the quality and quantity of the creative economy products.

While, the growth in demand can be done by creating a sense of security and comfort for tourists, expanding tourist connectivity, providing incentives or tour packages, optimizing meetings, incentives, conferencing, exhibitions activities in tourist destinations, providing intensive enhancement of the purchasing power of local products, creating employment and tourism grants through regional transfers for hotels, restaurants, and local governments.

Through all these steps, Uno optimistic that he can revive the tourism and the creative economy of Indonesia. He predicted in this year the arrival numbers could jump to 7 million tourists.
