JAKARTA - Six seaports in Maluku, North Maluku and West Papua province are ready to be operate and will be inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on this week. According to Transportation Minister said in a statement that the construction of all those seaports are funded by the 2015 state budget.
The seaports in Maluku province that have been finished are Tutu Kembong seaport, Wonreli seaport, and Pulau Teor seaport with the total funding of Rp157 billion (US$11.80 million). While, Investment Coordinating Agency (BKPM) head Franky Sibarani said that South Korean investors expressed interest in developing Indonesia’s shipyard industry.
Franky added that the investors would commit $80 million to provide two gas tankers in order for gas terminals. South Korea’s investment realization in 2015 stood at Rp 15.1 trillion ($1.2 billion) with 2,329 projects. Over the last five years, South Korea had invested Rp 79.6 trillion ($5.9 billion) in Indonesia. Indonesia needs investments to build shipyards with a capacity above 50,000 GT. So far, domestic investors had built many shipyards with a capacity below 17,000 GT. (*)
