Indonesia firms sign investment deal with Germany firms, Jokowi visits UK

JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) - President Joko Widodo is on state visits to a number of European countries. On Sunday and Monday the President visited Germany, where he met with Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel, CEOs of top Germany business as well as witnessed some business deals.

The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) Chairman Rosan P. Roeslani said a number of Indonesian companies signed investment deal with their Germany partners valued at $875 million. Large part of the business deal is between Indonesia’s coal and nickel producer PT Aneka Tambang (ANTM) and Gerrostahl Cronimet, with investment value of US$875 million.

The remaining $40 million is business deal between Myer Werft and state owned ferry operator PELNI as well as between paper producer APRIL and Inava valued at US$40 million.

In addition, the head of KADIN for international relations Shinta Widjaja Kamdani said Indonesian business leaders will also discuss to seek cooperation their counter parts in Germany on areas of energy, industry, agriculture, telecommunication, maritime and other sectors.

Aneka Tambang is expected to form a joint venture with US Cronimet Corporation and Germany’s Ferrostaal Group to build a ferronickel processing industry in Pomalaa, Southeast Sulawesi. Deputy Minister of Mining, Strategic Industry and Media at the Minister of State Own Enterprises (SOEs) Fajar Harry Sampurno said, the three companies will form a joint venture and the construction of the new plant is expected to start next year.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) met with the chief executive officers (CEOs) of German companies to draw more investment to Indonesia. The gathering was held on Monday at the Adlon Kempinsky Hotel in Berlin, the capital of the German Federal Republic.

The Indonesian representatives attending the meeting included Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution, Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, Head of the Investment Coordinating Board Franky Sibarani, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and Indonesian Ambassador to Germany Fauzi Bowo.

The CEOs from several German companies such as Mayer Werf GambH & Co KG, Ferrostaal GmBh, and Bayer AG attended the meeting. On Late Monday, President Joko Widodo carried on his state visit to U.K. (*)
