JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Indonesia cement consumption grew evenly in early 2018 with a range of 12 per cent to 17 per cent, Indonesian Cement Association said on Feb, 14.
Total consumption in January 2018 reached 5.68 million tons or up 9.9 per cent in annual basis (yoy). However compared to previous month, the domestic cement consumption eroded 2 per cent.
The chairman Widodo Santoso said that the highest growth of cement consumption occurred in Sumatra followed by Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua.
In detail, the consumption of cement per area in January 2018 are Sumatra 1.21 million tons (+ 17.8 per cent), Java 3.18 million tons (+ 8.1 per cent), Kalimantan 355,000 tons (+ 12.9 per cent), Sulawesi 478,000 tons (+ 11.4 per cent), Bali and Nusa Tenggara 288,000 tons (-7.5 per cent), and Maluku and Papua 167,000 tons (+ 17 per cent).
Furthermore, he stated, this condition makes cement stock in the factory start to increase sharply with total stock of cement and clinker there are about 2 million tons in early February 2018.
Meanwhile, PT Semen Indonesia Tbk (IDX: SMGR) reported has pocketed a 7 per cent sales increase in January 2018 compared to last year. Corporate Secretary Agung Wiharto said the sales growth came from domestic sales.
Last year, the company experienced a 10.2 per cent (yoy) increase in domestic cement sales to 28.96 million tons.
