JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution has appointed Edy Putra Irawady to lead Batam Indonesia Free Zone Authority (BIFZA). The appointment was part of the transitional program before handed over to the the Mayor of Batam.
In a limited meeting on Dec. 12, 2018, President Joko Widodo has decided to remove the dualism in BIFZA in Riau province. For years, the agency under State government control.
The agency liquidation is also in accordance with a government plan to change BIFZA from a free trade zone to special economic zone (SEZ).
“We want Batam and its surroundings to have a strategic position that can be maximally developed, to appeal and be competitive as a special economic zone and be attractive for investors,” said the president at the limited meeting in 2018.
