JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) - The Indonesian Business Competition Supervisory Committee (KPPU) has penalized Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM) and Astra Honda Motor (AHM) for involving in price cartel for scooter motorcycles.

By definition, a cartel is an agreement between competing firms to control prices.

The committee said the two companies were found to have breached the article 5 of the Law No. 5, Year 1999 on healthy business competition.

The Head of Judges for the case Tresna Priyana Soemardi said as a result of this, KPPU penalized YIMM and AHM to pay fines of Rp25 billion and Rp22.5 billion respectively.

YIMM’s fine was larger than AHM as the company, said the KPPU judge, was proven to have manipulated data during the hearing, while fines for AHM was cut by 10% as the company has been cooperative during the trial process.

Key facts:
Case Number: No.04/KPPU-I/2016
Defendant I : PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing
Defendant II: PT Astra Honda Motor
