JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Jakarta province proposes territorial quarantine follows the increasing number positive cases of COVID-19 in the last few weeks, said the governor during video conference with Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, today (04/02).
“The Jakarta situation is very worrying. Today we will send a letter to the ministry of health to declares Jakarta as a large-scale social restriction region,” the governor, Anies Baswedan, told vice president during the virtual meeting.
Based on the provincial data, he said, total positive cases in the capital city has reached 885 people and death toll over than 400. He also told Amin, what the Jakarta needs from the central government is to get immediate status so his office could issues the supporting regulations on the situation.
Last week, the central government have received a request from Jakarta to impose a regional quarantine to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the capital city, said coordinating minister for politc, law, and human right, Mahfud MD. But, President Joko Widodo rejected the proposals
In his report to vice president, Jakarta, he said, has conducting the large-scale social distancing since March 16, by closed the schools, tourist areas, car free day, and limited the transportation movements. Even though, the victims still high and needs more action to prevent the impact.
On the assistance program was announced by the government, he hope shortly distributes to the society. Baswedan reported, there are 3.7 million people’ Jakarta citizens, who are in a poor and vulnerable level has been affected by the pandemic and need support to finance their lives.
On March 31, President Widodo has announced the stimulus packages worth of Rp405.1 trillion (US$25.32 billion) to curb the domestic economy, around Rp150 trillion for social safety net. Social minister, Julian Batubara, told reporters after the limited meeting, the government has decided to gives special social assistance for Jakarta.
“Within two weeks, it could be able to realize social assistance for Jakarta,” he claimed.
Inline with this policy, the government is also preparing a social protection program and economic stimulus for micro, small and medium enterprises, business people and informal workers, he adds.
In implementing the policy, the President asked the task force and his ministers prepared a guidelines for provinces, districts and cities. He also reminded that the policy of health quarantine including regional quarantine is the authority of the central government, not the authority of regional governments.
“I hope all ministers ensure that the central-regional governments must have the same vision, have the same policy, everything must be calculated, both from the health impacts and the socio-economic impacts that exist,” he asserted.
