Jakarta (TheInsiderStories) – After announced joined with American car producer Tesla Inc. and Chinese BYD Auto Co. Ltd., to operate taxi electric in Indonesia, now Blue Bird Group considered looking another electric vehicles (EVs), said the president director on Sunday (09/08). The company plans to import 200 EVs in 2020.
Last April, the taxi operator has launched “e-Taxi”, an electric taxi fleet for Blue Bird and Silver bid services with Tesla and BYD models. The company plans to operate 200 electric cars by 2020. Its expected that with this new fleet, Bluebird will eliminate 434,095 kilograms of CO2 emissions or 1,898,182 liters of fuel consumption.
As quoted by local media, president director of Blue Bird Group Noni Purnomo, said the company now looking electric cars with more reasonable price. Currently one unit Tesla has prices Rp2.5 billion (US$177,305).
Previously, PT Blue Bird Tbk (IDX:BIRD) Director Adrianto Djokosoetono, stated that during 2020 – 2025, the operator aimed to have 2,000 units EVs and will eliminate 21,704,760 kilograms of CO2 emissions or equivalent to fuel consumption as much as 94.91 million liters.
This year, Blue Bird will focus on vehicle change and increase the utilization of operating vehicles by estimating capital expenditure of around Rp1.5 trillion for vehicle purchases. By this investment the company planned to add 3,000 taxi fleets in this year from currently has 28,000 fleets consisting of 21,000 regular taxis, 1,000 executive taxis and the buses with 70 percent taxi utilization rates by the end of December 2018.
In addition, the funds will also be used to prepare inter-provincial city transportation. Currently, Blue Bird operates a shuttle for Jakarta – Bandung. The operator also prepared airport transportation at Jakarta Airport Connexion, a shuttle from several points in Jakarta and surrounding areas to Soekarno – Hatta Airport in Tangerang.
Previously, Blue Bird formed a new subsidiary engaged in the business of transportation, warehousing, postal, and courier named PT Trans Antar Nusabird. This new company was formed by Blue Bird and its other subsidiaries, PT Big Bird Pusaka.
With the investment and establishment of new subsidiaries, the company hopes to survive in the midst of competition with motorcycle and taxis online. Blue Bird is also open for opportunities to grow through cooperation with a number of online taxi operators.
For the record, Blue Bird has collaborated with GO-JEK with Go-Blue Bird in March 2017. Although it has not been able to boost the value of Blue Bird’ earnings and stock prices, the move succeeded in reducing the decline in performance.
The company was established in 2011 as an open company in the field of passenger transportation and land transportation services that have 15 subsidiaries in 18 locations in Indonesia. Blue Bird has been listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange since November 5, 2014.
The integration of the company’ business is divided into four main pillars of regular taxis with the Blue Bird and Pusaka brands, executive taxis with the Silver Bird brand, limousine vehicles and car rental under the Golden Bird brand and bus rental services under their brand Big Bird.
Recently, Indonesian government provided an incentives for business people who want to run electric car programs in this country. To support the planned, now the government prepared lithium batteries plant in the Morowali Special Economic Zone, Southeast Sulawesi.
Energy security is very important because Indonesia still imports Rp350 trillion in fuel oil and causes a deficit in the trade balance that has not improved.
