JAKARTA - China Jinchuan Group Co., Ltd., engages in mining, concentrating, metallurgy and chemical engineering and deep processing, set to invest Rp9 trillion (US$687.02 million) to build a nickel smelter in North Maluku, Antara reported. North Maluku was selected because of strong supports from the provincial administration for investment by the Guangzhou government.
Yao Wei Xin, the president Director, said a memorandum of understanding was already signed in Jakarta between the company and the North Maluku administration on the cooperation to build the smelter and investment in the fisheries and education sectors. The project would be built on the island of Obi, regency of Halmahera Selatan.
