JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) - Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) Lampung, operated by gas distributor PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (IDX:PGAS), has received first cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Tangguh LNG plant in West Papua.
After nearly a week of Papua sailing, the LNG carrier which transported one cargo of LNG (about 137,700 cubic meters) docked at the Lampung FSRU on Saturday morning at around 06.00 pm, April 2. The FSRU is about 21 kilometers off the coast of Labuan Maringgai, Lampung.
The unloading of LNG from LNG carrier to the FSRU started at around 12:00 pm. This process is commonly referred to ship to ship transfers (STS). “The process of unloading the LNG takes about 75 hours, or about three days,” said President Director of PT PGN LNG Indonesia, Mugiono, Sunday (April 4). PT PGN LNG Indonesia is a subsidiary of PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN), which operates the Lampung FSRU.
The LNG cargo to the Lampung FSRU is part of the 1.1 million cubic meters of LNG to be delivered to the FSRU by the end of 2016. “We are also in talks to buy additional cargoes of LNG from other sources,” said Mugiono.
LNG from the Lampung FSRU will strengthen gas supply of PGN to customers in West Java and southern Sumatra. Before delivering the gas to customers, the LNG is re-gasified - change the liquid gas to gas. From Lampung FSRU, the gas flows through the subsea pipeline leading to the receiving station in Labuan Maringgai, which is connected with the South Sumatra-West Java (SSWJ) pipeline, so that the gas can be distributed to PGN customers in West Java and southern Sumatra.
Mugiono said that the Lampung FSRU would strongly support the national energy needs for the western and central part of Indonesia.
The production of oil and natural gas in western Indonesia is currently declining. The existence of Lampung FSRU strongly supports the utilization of gas resources in eastern Indonesian region.
PGN Corporate Secretary Heri Yusup added that in addition to meeting the needs of natural gas for existing customers such as industrial, commercial, SMEs and households, the presence of Lampung FSRU also to support the electricity sector.
“The Lampung FSRU is ready to support 35,000 MW of power projects, initiated by President Joko Widodo, primarily located in western Java and southern Sumatra” said Heri Yusup.
Based on data from the Ministry of Energy, the power projects of 35,000 MW, approximately 13,432 MW power plants will use gas fuel. Total gas required for the gas power plants will approximately reach 1,009 million cubic feet per day (MMSCFD).
The gas power plant in power projects of 35,000 MW, among others PLTGU Java 1, with capacity of 1,600 MW, Combined Cycle Power Plant Java-Bali 3 Peaker with 500 MW, Muara Karang (peaker) 500 MW, Combined Cycle Power Plant Java 2 (Tanjung Priok) 800 MW, PLTMG V 30 MW Belitung, Bangka PLTMG Peaker 100 MW, PLTMG Tanjung Pinang II with capacity of 30 MW, PLTMG Bengkalis 18 MW, PLMG MPP East Kalimantan 30 MW, PLTGU Sulsel Peaker 450 MW and many others.
PGN also developed Mini LNG Vessel which will carry LNG from the FSRU Lampung to power plants located in various islands, among others around Sumatra, Kalimantan and other areas.
Lampung FSRU has a capacity of 170,000 cubic meters of LNG storage and regasification capability of 240 MMSCFD (million standard cubic feet per day). (*)
