JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) - Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), the Japanese auto giant, will add new investment of between Rp 20 trillion to Rp 25 trillion by 2019, TMC President Akio Toyoda said after meeting with the Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the State Palace, Jakarta Monday (Mar 3).
He said the investments will be disbursed through Toyota’s Indonesian operating company PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), which has been aggressively pouring investments to build an engine plants, assembling and producing new cars.
Currently, TMMIN has an assembly factory in Karawang, West Java, with installed production capacity of 250,000 units per year. TMMIN also has completed the construction of an aluminum engine factory in Karawang with capacity of 216,000 units per year with an investment of Rp 2.3 trillion.
“Until now, Toyota has disbursed Rp 18 trillion investment, so there is investment allocation of Rp 7 trillion to be spent by 2019,” said Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartanto, who accompanied Akio Toyoda, said.
At the meeting with the President, the Toyoda president was accompanied by TMMIN’s planned new President Director Warih Andang Tjahjono. At the meeting, Toyota has promised to contribute positively to the development of the domestic automotive industry, through increased investment, exports, employment, and improving the quality of human resources (HR).
“Toyota is also encouraged to conduct an internship program for six months, which is in line with vocational training and vocational school provided by the government,” he said.
New Chairman
On the other hand, Warih Andang Tjahjono appointed as president of TMMIN, replacing Masahiro Nonami, starting in April 2017. Warih is the first Indonesian to become president of TMMIN and the first Indonesian to occupy the helm at Toyota manufacturing companies in the Asia Pacific region.
Currently, Warih is the vice president of TMMIN. Warih has been working for nearly 30 years in TMMIN. As Masahiro Nonami who served as president of TMMIN since 2010 will get a new position in TMMIN.
Warih is determined to ensure TMMIN will continue its efforts to support and contribute to the development of Indonesia’s automotive industry.
Warih was born in Pati, Central Java, in 1963. He earned Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Diponegoro in 1989. During his career at Toyota since 1989, Warih held several positions such as director of human resources, general affairs, operations management consulting (2009-2011 ) and director of vehicle manufacturing Karawang Plant & Production Engineering (2011-2014), before becoming Wapresdir TMMIN in 2014.
