JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Indonesian Minister of State-Owned Entreprises (SOEs) Erick Thohir threatened to remove directors of PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk (IDX: GIAA), in case the SOEs’ airline director is proven to be involved in smuggling of Harley Davidson and Brompton motorcycle auto parts, the minister told the media on Wednesday (12/04).
“We let the customs to do their job, but if it’s proven, (director) must be removed,” Thohir said, adding he prefers the director to resign from his position before proven guilty.
However, the minister is still waiting for the investigation result from the Custom. He will assert the decision after the result announcement
Thohir reiterated that people who occupy high positions in SOEs are expected to be professional and have good morals. Because these people are the best man of the nation who are given the mandate to lead state enterprises.
“It is important for SOEs leaders to have loyalty to the government and be able to sit together to find solutions. Not to criticize each other through the media,” he added.
Meanwhile, Thohir said there were no plans to overhaul the ranks of Garuda Indonesia officials. However, the ministry will monitor the ongoing investigation process.
Garuda Indonesia VP Corporate Secretary M. Ikhsan Rosan previously said that the airline had submitted formal procedures that were generally accepted for aircraft arrival. The items on the plane have been checked according to the rules. All passengers also have to self-declare luggage according to the rules at international customs.
At present, he said that goods consisting of 15 boxes of Harley Davidson motorcycle auto parts and three boxes containing Brompton auto parts have been secured and inspected by customs. The goods are the property of the passengers in accordance with the manifest of the aircraft.
Rosan emphasized that the GMF area is a bonded and inclusive area. All elements of customs and immigration are there. GMF, he continued, also complies with the applicable international customs rules.
