JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) - Indonesian state-owned port operator PT Angkasa Pura (AP) I will tighten inspection procedures on laptops and electronic goods brought by aircraft passengers at 13 airports that are being operated by the company.
The inspection prior to passengers boarding the aircraft is intended to improve security and safety for users of aviation services in the country.
“Aircraft passengers are currently required to remove laptops and electronic goods from passenger baggages or carry-on bag of passengers and are checked through the X-ray machines,” said Corporate Secretary of AP I Israwadi in a statement on Monday (3/4).
The tightening policy of the inspection is in line with the Regulation of the Director General of Civil Aviation No. SKEP / 2765 / XII / 2010 on Procedures for Safety Inspection on Passengers, Personnel Aircraft, and Baggages Transported by Aircraft and the circular of the Director General of Civil Aviation number SE 6, 2016 On Baggage Inspection Procedure on Electronic Devices Being Transported by Airplanes.
Israwadi added that if a laptop or electronic items that have been examined through X-ray examination but the inspectors are still suspicious, the aviation security officer (AVSEC) will perform manually by asking passengers to turn on and operate laptops and electronic devices. AVSEC officer will monitor and see the results of operation of laptops and electronic devices of passengers.
“In order to improve the security and safety of passengers during the flight as well as anticipate the escalation of aviation security threats, we’ll need the help and cooperation of passengers to be able to follow and comply with the inspection procedures set out,” he said.
Stringent checks on laptops and electronic goods is in accordance with the DGCA Instruction No. 3 of 2017 On Measures to Improve Handling Bomb (Bomb Threat) on Civil Aviation set on March 30, 2017, was due to rampant issue of bomb threats.
Israwadi also stated that he has always been committed to prioritize passenger safety and security of air services as an essential aspect of running a business of airport.
Meanwhile, the International Airport I Gusti Ngurah Rai, Bali has tightened checkings on laptops and electronic goods carried by airline passengers prior to boarding.
“Cell phones, laptops, and other electronic items should be brought to the cabin only when after inspection is done,” said the Head of Public Relations International Airport I Gusti Ngurah Rai in Denpasar, Arie Ahsanurrohim. (HS)
