PLTP Baturaden development moves ahead

JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) - The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry announced its plan to develop Baturaden geothermal power plant (PLTU Baturaden) in Central Java with planned installed capacity of 220 MW. The project is expected to be completed in 2023 or early 2024.

Director for Geothermal at the Directorate for New, Renewable and Energy Conservation at the energy ministry Yunus Saefulhak reassured the energy ministry plan to push the development of the geothermal power plant when visiting the site last Thursday (Apr 13). The visit was accompanied by representatives from Central Java provincial government and Banyumas Regency.

The energy ministry has awarded PT Sejahtera Alam Energy (PT SAE) earlier to develop the geothermal power plant. PLTP Baturaden is part of the 10,000 MW of power plant crash program under the previous government. The project is now under exploration program. Yunus Saefulhak said PLTP Baturaden is a strategic project as part of the government’s drive to meet the country’s growing energy need. (*)
