JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) - PT Pertamina, state energy company, expects the import of Pertamax fuel, higher octane fuel, to rise to 36 million barrels in 2017, rose by 44 percent from 25 million barrels in 2016 and only 8 million barrels in 2015.
This indicated that Indonesian consumers are consuming more higher octane fuel.
Senior Vice President Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) of Pertamina Daniel Purba said as Pertamax fuel import is rising, the company reduce the import of low octane fuel, namely Premium.
Premium fuel (88 octane level) imports has declined to 73.7 million barresl in 2016 from 116.3 million barrels in 2015. As for 2017, Pertamina sets guideline to import 62 million barrels of Premium fuel, nearly half the level of 2016.
The increase supply and consumption of Pertamax was also made possible with the operation of Pertamina’s RFCC and TPPI refineries.
Majority of fuel types sold in the Indonesian market are less environmentally friendly. Pertamina will only be able to sell Euro-4 standarded fuel once the upgrading of its existing refinery and the grassroot refineries projects are completed after 2020.
Purba also said that all of the fuel import activities have been fully shifted to the Pertamina headquarter through the Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) unit, from Singapore office.
“So far the supply of fuel, LPG, crude oil for feed stocks for (Pertamina’s) refineries have been done smoothly,” Purba said. (BW)
