(Insider Stories) - Indonesian media conglomerate Media Nusantara Citra Group is in talks to acquire up to 100% of television station ANTV from PT Visi Media Asia (VIVA.JK), MNC Group's chief executive says.
MNC Group CEO Harry Tanoesoedibjo said the company previously planned to acquire VIVA from the Bakrie Group, but failed to reach a deal, and that the Bakries have now offered ANTV for sale.
Tanoesoedibjo said that if the deal goes through, the group will use internal cash and loans from foreign and local banks to finance the acqusition. He said MNC's media units have around IDR6 trillion ($600 million) free cash-in-hand.
Tanoesoedibjo said ANTV caters to a different market segment from MNC Group's RCTI, Global TV and MNC TV units, while MNC is also seeking to expand its share of the media market and generate higher income from TV advertising, which it expects will soon account for 70% of ad spending in the media space.
He said that due to good performance at the media units and weak conditions on capital markets, MNC has opted to postpone rights issuances planned for three of its units that were previously scheduled to raise up to IDR7 trillion this year.
PT Global Mediacom (IDX:BMTR) had planned to release up to 9.1% of its enlarged capital at IDR2,360 a share, hoping to generate up to IDR2.97 trillion, with the funds to be used to increase its ownership stake in pay television network PT MNC Sky Vision (IDX:MSKY).
Global Mediacom has three business segments: subscription-based services, content and advertising-based media. Its business spans from free-to-air television to radio broadcasting, magazines, newspaper and mobile content.
MNC Land (IDX:KPIG), the property development unit of MNC affiliate PT Bhakti Investama had planned to raise up to IDR1.95 trillion from a sale of up to 10% of its enlarged capital, with the indicative rights issue price set at IDR1,520 a share, and funds to be used to help finance development of an integrated tourism park, Lido Lakes Resort and Conferences, and the Mandalika Resort.
Financial services provider PT MNC Kapital Indonesia (IDX:BCAPM) was planning to issue up to 10% of its capital, targeting IDR1 trillion-IDR2 trillion from the sale.
