JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Indonesia’ political temperature ahead of the third debate is heating up again. The increase in political level, was not only caused by the two vice presidential (VP) candidates’ discourse battles, but also caught up in the strategy of the two teams’ success to win public opinion and electoral support.
For, as in the algorithms design, the ability to form positive public opinion towards candidates is very close to winning, gaining voter support. The third round, which specifically presents the vice presidential candidates, Ma’ruf Amin and Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, will be held on Sunday (03/17).
This debate will review themes about education, health, employment, social and culture. The General Election Commission (GEC) has appointed nine panelists, namely Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu, Chairil Effendy MS, Samsul Rizal, Yudian Wahyudi, Subhilhar, Radhar Panca Dahana, Anis Hidayah, David S. Perdanakusuma and Yos Johan Utama.
The battle of the two discourses of the president assistant candidates has not massively surfaced. Both Amin and Uno didn’t have enough direct experience in several fields which became the main spotlight on the later war of ideas. As a senior cleric and expert on sharia economics, Ma’ruf certainly has provisions in terms of understanding the reality of education and socio-culture.
However, in the health and employment sector, the former Chairperson of the Ulama Indonesia Assembly was not directly involved, so perhaps the discourse in question was more macro-national. Ma’ruf had previously been rich with long experience as an educator, leader of community, religious organizations, became a member of parliament, and tested in public policy. Therefore, what is the main idea will be speaking from a deductive point of view.
More than that, Ma’ruf also plans to bring his tandem idea, Joko Widodo, to explain the design of the Pra-Kerja Card, Swasembada Card and Sakti Card program. However, the cleric’s clear ideas were not yet emerged and were still awaited by the public.
Uno, despite having an entrepreneurial background and expert in the microeconomic structure, was sufficiently experienced with the sectors that were the ideas of the Sunday evening. Apart from having been debating the Jakarta regional election two years ago, he has traveled to more than 1.000 points throughout Indonesia while carrying out political arguments about improving education, health and employment.
During a visit, he continued to echo topics on Health Insurance program, teacher welfare, and the OK-OCE program, which were directly related to the theme of employment. Uno believes, OK-OCE can already be replicated and become a national pilot project because several districts/cities and provinces have adopted an economic approach similar to the program.
On the other side, in his campaign, he always initiated the design of Indonesian education, which he said to this day is still problematic, both structurally and substantially. The VP candidate emphasized the importance of equitable access to education, the welfare of teacher honorariums, and the design of the education system, whether public or vocational, which is connected and in accordance with the needs of employment, or who can open new jobs.
In the theme of health, in addition to discussing Health Insurance, Uno will also discuss the welfare of doctors to pharmacists and promise to allocate funds for prevention programs not only preventively but also create healthy ecosystems.
Even so, his experience in socio-cultural structure is still considered to be under Amin. As educators and scholars, of course the incumbent’ partner understanding and ideas to elaborate on these themes will be very rich and profound.
The most important thing is how he is able to construct his experience in a discourse that is simple and easily captured by the public. As in the first debate, although it didn’t speak enough, Amin showed his existence as the maturity of experience.
However, Uno’ ability to elaborate on the idea is no doubt. At the first debate, he looked very active and was able to match the ideas presented by pair number 01, Widodo – Amin. The maturity of communication and design ideas is considered very good, only he can convince the public that the program and ideas are reasonable, measurable and digestible. Therefore, from the aspect of political communication, Uno can surpass his rival.
On electability, according to several surveys, Charta Politika in January 2019, for example, showed that Amin’ figure had no significant effect on Widodo’ electability, was only 0.2 percent. In contrast, according to the Denny JA from Lembaga Survey Indonesia released last August, Uno was able to boost Prabowo Subianto’ electability by 0.7 percent.
Personally, Prabowo only had 28.8 percent, but when with Sandiaga, his electability rose to 29.5 percent. Uno raised Subianto’ voice in three votes, namely female voters, beginner voters, and educated peoples.
At present, the public and voters await the “stage” of the two candidates to convince and attract sympathy and electoral vote support to win the 2019 Presidential Election contest. Although as number two, the two candidates have the ability to empower electability and the spread of political ideas.
