JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Indonesia’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) Ignatius Jonan launched 16 electricity infrastructure projects spread across West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara on Thursday (07/25). The projects include the constructions of power plants and the Sumbawa Electricity Toll project.

“With these projects, electricity infrastructure in West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara will become more reliable,” Minister Jonan said. “This is a big project and we have to succeed. I hope the participation of all parties is very helpful to realize this,” he added.

The minister noted currently the electrification ratio in West Nusa Tenggara is around 97.9 percent and Jonan targets the end of this year to increase to 99 percent. The new power plants are expected to increase electricity supply capacity. Meanwhile, with the operation of the 461-kilometer Sumbawa Electricity Toll Road will connect the electricity systems of Sumbawa and Bima.

While for East Nusa Tenggara until June 2019, the electrification ratio has reached 72 percent and is targeted to reach 90 percent by the end of 2019.

The electricity project which was inaugurated by West Nusa Tenggara was far more than East Nusa Tenggara. In West Nusa Tenggara, the government built the Sumbawa Gas Power Plant 50 MW, Bima 50 MW, GI 150 kV 20 MVA, GI 70kV / 150kV Dompu Extension 60 MVA, GI 70 kV 30 MVA Bima Extension, and GI 70 kV Bonto Extension, and others.

In addition to electricity generation, the government also built an electric toll on Sumbawa. Among them, SUTT 70kV Taliwang GI-PLTU West Sumbawa, SUTT 150 kV PLTMG Sumbawa-GI Labuhan, SUTT 150 kV Labuhan-Empang, SUTT 150 kV Empang-Dompu.

As for the electricity project in East Nusa Tenggara, the government is building a 40 MW Maumere power plant, Maumere-Ropa-Ende 2 × 1 MWp, and Buggy 2 × 500 kW, and others.

New plants are expected to increase electricity supply capacity in the area, so as to encourage economic growth and tourism. In addition, the Sumbawa toll road along the 461 km linking the Sumbawa and Bima electricity systems will become one of the Sumbawa-Bima interconnection systems and the first in the electricity system in West Nusa Tenggara.

The power plants can provide electricity to approximately 286,000 families. In addition, their operation has the potential to reduce the basic costs of generating power by some Rp18.02 billion per month.

Minister Jonan was accompanied by West Nusa Tenggara Governor Zulkieflimansyah and PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara acting director Djoko Rahardjo Abu Manan. The ceremony took place at the Sumbawa Gas Power Plant complex.

Manan is optimistic that the electrification ratio in West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara will reach the predetermined target. We continue to work and are optimistic we can achieve the target. For West Nusa Tenggara it reaches 99 percent and East Nusa Tenggara 90 percent for this year, he adds.

On this occasion, PLN through the PLN Care program provided free electricity connection assistance to 1,000 poor households. While the West Nusa Tenggara provincial government also provided free electricity connections to 950 poor households.

“We want the entire community to be electrified, at this time we can help in West Nusa Tenggara alone there are 1,000 poor households. Hopefully, this will benefit the community and can encourage an increase in the electrification ratio,” he ended.
