JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Indonesia’s measure to boost tourism, aims to raise US$20 billion of foreign exchange revenues in 2019, said Tourism Minister Arief Yahya, on Tuesday (23/10). The targets are three billion dollars increase from this years’s target.

According to him, now tourism is the fourth biggest contributor of foreign exchange, after crude palm oil, oil and gas, and coal. As Indonesia’s developing tourist destination, foreign exchange revenues growth in the sector followed, he added.
In 2017, Indonesia received $15.2 billion foreign exchange revenues, grew 12 percent from 2016. At that year, Indonesia is considered as 9th fast-growing tourism in the world. In Asia, Indonesia recorded as third highest rise in tourism. And in ASEAN, Indonesia tourism growth is at the top.
During 2017, Indonesia tourism grew 22 percent. It’s higher than world’s tourism average growth at 6.4 percent, and ASEAN at 7 percent.
While, Foreign tourist visit to Indonesia kept raising in the last three years. In 2015, there were 9.7 million tourists. And until August 2018, 10.58 million foreign tourists came to Indonesia, around 62 percent of this year’s target.
Currently, Indonesia developed 10 tourist destinations, such as Toba Lake in North Sumatera, Tanjung Kelayang Beach in Bangka Belitung, Tanjung Lesung Beach in Banten, Thousand Islands in Jakarta, Candi Borobudur in Central Java, Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park in East Java, Mandalika in West Nusa Tenggara, Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara, Morotai Island in North Maluku, and Wakatobi National Park in Southeast Sulawesi.
