The hours-long negotiation resulted in Yudhoyono emphasizing on his party’s possible support for Subianto’s presidential bid although he did not make any firm official declarations.

“We come here with an understanding that Pak Prabowo is a presidential candidate,” Yudhoyono told the press on Monday (30/07).

Meanwhile, Subianto reiterated that his presidential bid was final, assuring that further talks would focus on selecting a running mate as well as discussing on formulating a vision and mission of the coalition.

Later in the evening, Yudhoyono met chief patron of Gerindra’s loyal coalition partner, Keadilan Sejahtera Party, Salim Segaf al-Jufri at a hotel in South Jakarta.

The battle for 2019’s presidential election heats up ahead the registration to General Election Commissions. Joko Widodo and his coalition party has met and to announce the vice president candidate next week.

Ahead of the registration of presidential and vice presidential candidates on August 4-10, the name continues to emerge and more difficult to predict. Political movements that may be noticed is related to the steps of the government’s opposition party that is still looking for the ideal form.

The Demokrat Party has three options to offer to other parties like joining the coalition of Widodo, carrying the Subianto’s party, or carrying a candidate pair in addition to both.

With the joining of Kebangkitan Bangsa party to Widodo’s coalition, practically the option of carrying candidate pair outside of him and Subianto will be difficult. Unless, there is one party that has joined the coalition of Widodo out and deigns a coalition with the Democrats.
