JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Indonesian Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu claimed that the massacred to 31 workers at Trans Papua project in Kali Yigi dan Aurak, Yigi District, Nduga Regency, Papua, at Sunday (12/02), is an extraordinary case. He emphasized that the bad-actors are not an armed criminal group, but the Rebels, referring to the Free-Papua Movement.
“They are not a criminal group, but rebels. Why do I say they are rebels? Because they want to separate from Indonesia. Don’t forget, they will separate off,” said Ryacudu in Parlement Complex, Jakarta, on Thursday (12/04).
When asked about possible solutions to this problem, Ryacudu emphasized that there was no negotiation with the rebels group. “It was up to me, there was no negotiation. Either given up or completed. Just do it,” he said.
The minister’s statement was quickly responded by Military Regional Command Cendrawasih, who said that the gun shooters in Nduga Regency have to take responsibility for the murders of the 31 workers. The group is led by Egianus Kogoya, whose has a black record there. In addition to the massacre of 31 workers, on Monday (12/03), the separatist group attacked army’s post in Mbua District who killed one person and injured the other ones.
“So, they attacked army’s post and one of the soldiers was killed and the other one was injured,” he said.
Beforehand, the group had attacked the airport in di Kenyam, Nduga Regency capital. Consequently, one pilot of Trigana Air was injured, four killed and another two were also injured.
Meanwhile, Public Works and Public Housing ministry decided to halt a brigde development project that had been in progress by state-owned developer PT Istaka Karya.
“For the moment, the fifth segment in Trans-Papua will be postponed, just in the race, but the others kept in running,” said Minister Basuki Hadimuljono.
From credible sources of information, the bridge construction workers were allegedly killed because they took photos during the Independence day celebration celebration of the Free Papua National Liberation Army by the rebels, not far from the scene. One of the workers took a photo was later found by the separatism group.
This triggered the gun men’s anger and they began looking for other people who were taking photos, which may negatively impact other workers in the bridge construction camp.
Jayawijaya Police Chief, Yan Pieter Reba confirmed the information. One of the workers took a photo when the group performed the ceremony. According to Reba, as many as 24 people were killed in the camp. Then another eight people who had previously managed to escape to one of the houses of the family members of the local Parliament. At that time, seven of them died and one person managed to escape. Reba further stated that his party was coordinating with the army to evacuate the victims.
