INSIDER HEADLINE: Govt Appoints Adhi-led Consortium to Build Three Indonesia Monorail Routes -Report

13 March (The Insider Stories) - The Indonesian government appointed state construction company PT Adhi Karya Tbk (ADHI) to lead a consortium that will provide construction services for a monorail linking the Jakarta suburbs of Cibubur, Cawang, Bekasi and Kuningan, Investor Daily reported Wednesday.

Adhi president director Kiswodarmawan was quoted as saying the company is awaiting a presidential regulation directly appointing the company’s consortium, which consists of state toll road operator PT Jasa Marga Tbk, state telecomunication company PT Telkom Indonesia Tbk, railway systems company PT Len Industri and PT Industri Kereta Api, which makes wagons for railway applications.

He said Adhi expects construction for the three routes of the monorail to cost around 9 trillion rupiah and begin this year. Financing will rely on loans from state banks and internal cash at the state firms.

The Jakarta city administration in 2011 officially abandoned a previous monorail project that began construction in 2004 but was never completed. The city government is also considering building a Mass Rapid Transport system to ease congestion.
