ADB provides funding of $200M for southern Java road

JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) - The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has provided funding of US$200 million to Indonesia to finance the construction of national roads across southern part of Java Island, called Java Phase II project. The national road construction tender will be conducted in May 2017.

“We are currently working on the design and planning to launch the tender for the project in May 2017, followed by construction in October this year,” said Rahman Arif, director for road network development at the Directorate General of Highways, Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) in Jakarta on Wednesday (12/4).

Rahman said the government is targeting to develop about 1,000 kilometers (km) long of road, which will stretch from Cilacap in Central Java to Banyuwangi in East Java, with completion target in 2019. “The southern Java corridor phase II portion will continue into Phase III, the funding of comes from the ADB loan,” he said.
