First Media prepared fund $68m to adds movie screens

PT First Media Tbk (IDX: KBLV), the media arm of Lippo Group, will set aside up to Rp 900 billion ($68 million) for capital expenditure this year to expand the Cinemaxx chains in the country. Cinemaxx Global Pasifik now has 99 movie screens in 10 cities across. First Media president director Irwan Djaja said sees there is still room for 5,000 more screens in Indonesia. Currently, Indonesia government lifted foreign investment restrictions in cinema operatorship, film production house, film distribution as well as film and movie promotion in a bid to lure more investors investing in those sectors and in the country. According to the Presidential Regulation number 39/2014 on Negative Investment List, the movie industry is a sector that closed to foreign investment. Currently, Indonesia have only 1,050 movie theaters and seeks to increase the numbers to 5,000 to 20,000 theaters.
