Five global player eyes Chevron assets in Indonesia, Philippines

French Engie, Japanese conglomerate Marubeni Corp. and PT Medco Power of Indonesia are the companies interesting in bidding for Chevron’s geothermal blocks in Indonesia and the Philippines that could be worth up to $3 billion, according to a report. South-East Asian power companies Aboitiz and Banpu Power are also said to be considering bidding. Chevron engaged US bank Citigroup to handle the sale process, with an auction started last month. Indicative bids are due later this month, it added. Chevron has a number of geothermal blocks in the region. In late 2010 it was awarded the 320-quare-kilometre Suoh-Sekincau area in West Lampung province, Indonesia. Also in Indonesia, it operates the Salak and Darajat fields in Java. In the Philippines it has a 40 percent interest in Philippine Geothermal Production, operator of the Tiwi geothermal facility in Albay province and the Mak-Ban geothermal facility in Laguna and Batangas provinces
