JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) - The Indonesia government plans to start the feasibility study (FS) for the Jakarta-Surabaya high speed train, which is estimated to require investment of Rp30 trillion, a cabinet minister said.
If it is go ahead, this would be second high-speed train to be developed in Indonesia, after Jakarta-Bandung high-speed project which is also in its early stage of development.
Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Panjaitan said the feasibility study will be conducted jointly by the Transportation Ministry, BPPT, state run PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) and experts from Japan.
Minister Luhut has earlier visited Japan to offer and lobby the Japanese government to develop the Jakarta-Surabaya high speed train after losing in a tender in the Jakarta-Bandung high speed railway, which was won by a Chinese company in collaboration with Indonesian state run construction firms.
The feasibility study is expected to start conducting the pre-study and followed by detailed engineering design. Once this is completed, the project construction can be started in early 2018, he said.
The Jakarta-Surabaya fast train is planned to have average speed of 160 km per hour or 5-5.5 km per hour, with total length of 730 km. The government wants to develop the project through public-private partnership (PPP).
Menwhile, Minister for National Development Planning and Head of Bappenas Bambang Brodjonegoro said Friday that the feasibility study of the project, estimated at Rp30-40 billion will be financed by the 2017 State Budget.
Director for Railway at the Transportation Ministry Prasetyo Boeditjahjono added the FS of the project is targeted to be completed at end November 2017 or around 7 month. (*)
