JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) - Indonesian State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Ministry will set up the largest maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) holding company in the country to be named Indonesia Service Hub. The service hub will become center for aircraft maintenance service in the country.
Minister for SOEs Rini Soemarno said that the government plans to merge MRO’s unit under PT Garuda Maintenance Facility Aero Asia (GMF Aero Asia), PT Merpati Maintenance Facility, PT Nusantara Turbin & Propulsi, PT IndoPelita Aircraft Services and PT Dirgantara Indonesia.
The purpose of the move is to strengthen the country’s MRO business in facing the globalization era. DI also has the ability to make components of airbus.
The minister said Indonesian companies ability is often undermined by other industry players in the world. She cited the case of China. The country has assembled A320 in China. Other countries, such as China and Singapore, have set up Singapore and China Incorporated to boost its MRO business. China realises that it cannot expand its MRO industry by themselves, therefore it ties up with Airbus to develop the best service in the country, followed by the manufacturing of aircraft components.
“We also have a plan to establish Indonesia Incorporated, with an ambitious goal to make Indonesia as the MRO Hub for Asia and Africa. We should set up the hub in North Sumatera or Aceh,” she said at the signing agreement of on Thursday.
CEO of PT GMF Juliandra Nurtjahyo said the sort of cooperation and preparation phase is targeted to be completed within one year and the form of business entity. Indonesia Service Hub will combine all the workshops in Indonesia. (*)
