(The Insider Stories) – Freeport Indonesia re-opened some of their pit operations since June, 28th, said the company in statement. The open pit produces about 140,000 tonnes of copper ore per day and the underground puts out about 80,000 tonnes.
Underground mining is still suspended while a safety inspection is conducted following the tunnel collapse two weeks ago that killed 28 people.
“As of operations at the open pit mine and the mill we have restarted on May 28, 2013 and are slowly ramping up our operations,” company’s said in statement.
Freeport said the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) have completed their preliminary
investigation of the Underground Training Facility accident and have issued several recommendations related to the company’s operations.
Based on these recommendations, maintenance activities are being performed in PT-FI’s underground operations and production is
expected to be ramped up upon completion of inspections in coordination with government authorities.
The company is assessing the impact on production and will provide an update when this assessment is completed.
