Garuda CEO Emirsyah Satar, businessman Chris Kanter on radar for BKPM position | Executive data

(The Insider Stories) – Emirsyah Satar, the president director (CEO) of flag carrier Garuda Indonesia (IDX:GIAA), and businessman Chris Kanter are among the candidates to take over the chairmanship of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) after incumbent Chatib Basri was tapped as finance minister this week, according to Indonesia’s senior economic minister.

“They are [both] on the radar,” coordinating minister for the economy Hatta Rajasa told The Insider Stories. “In two days I will announce [the decision]…There are several names on the radar.”

Born in Jakarta in 1959, Satar graduated from the accounting faculty of the University of Indonesia before studying at the Sorbonne in Paris. The Garuda chief  is president of the Indonesia National Air Carriers Association, a member of the board of governors of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and sits on the executive committee of the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA). He has served as finance director at Garuda, as a deputy director of PT Bank Danamon (IDX:BDMN), Managing Director of Niaga Finance in Hong Kong, an assistant vice president of Citibank’s corporate banking group, and an auditor untuk Coopers & Lybrand Audit Firm. He is also a Kadin vice chairman.

Kanter is a founder of Sigma Sembada Group, a contracting firm, and is involved in transport and logistics via his ownership of PT Unggul Cipta Trans and president director (CEO) position at PT KN Sigma Trans. The Trisakti University graduate has served as a commissioner at PT Indosat (IDX:ISAT) and as a chairman of the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo). He previously headed the Indonesian Forwarders Association (Gafeksi) and is the brother of Nico Kanter, the president and CEO of PT Vale Indonesia (IDX:INCO), formerly PT International Nickel Indonesia.
