JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) - South Korean firm is interested to invest in LNG shipping as well as operating the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) with projected investment of US$800 million, a government official said.
The Head of National Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Franky Sibarani said the South Korean is interested given expected increasing demand consumption of LNG in Indonesia. He said the Korean investor is prepared to invest up to US$800 million to develop 2 gas carrier. The company is now seeking to find domestic partner in the new venture.
South Koreans have been active in investing in Indonesia. Based on BKPM datga, in the first quarter 2016, South Korean is in the sixth largest investor in Indonesia with total investment of US$188 million and 435 projects, absorbing 28,349 workers. Last year, South Koreans invested US$1.2 billion in Indonesia, up 7.6 percent from previous year. In 2010-2015, the country’s investment in Indonesia topped US$8 billion. (*)
