JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – The Indonesian government has filed lawsuit at WTO’s Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) over the moves of the European Union (EU) to impose anti-dumping levy on Indonesia’s biodiesel exports to the EU countries. As a result of this anti-dumping duty, Indonesia’s biodiesel exports to EU plunged by 72.34% from US$635 million in 2013 to US$9 million in 2017.
EU has imposed anti-dumping duty on Indonesia’s biodiesel exports to EU by 8.8%-23.3% (EUR 76.94-EUR178.85) per ton. As a result, Indonesian biodiesel exports to Euro declined significantly.
“European Union has become a good market for Indonesia’s biodiesel product. With this lawsuit, we hope to reduce the dumping margin, therefore biodiesel exports can recover again,” Director General for Foreign Trade at the Trade Ministry Oke Nurwan said.
Oke said Indonesia will take firm actions against any efforts to block market access to Indonesia’s exports to the European Union. Indonesia appears to follow the footstep of Argentine, which has also filed lawsuit at Appellate Body (AB) of WTO. Argentine won its case against EU.
Meanwhile, Director for Safeguarding of Trade at the Trade Ministry Pradnyawati said the Trade Ministry will file the lawsuit at the end of this month. The ministry will continue to monitor this biodiesel dispute. “We are ready to file the lawsuit at around March 29-30 at WTO office in Geneva. We won’t let any holes that could potentially damage Indonesia’s trade,” said Pradnyawati. (*)
