Indonesia Reveals $44.6 billion Priority Projects At IICE 2013

Insider Stories - Another year, another infrastructure conference. The government of Indonesia, at Infrastructure Conference and Exhibition 2013, said is targeting to see groundbreaking of 15 projects next year.

These projects are fully funded by the government and part of 56 projects worth $44.6 billion set in the priority list by the government to see groundbreakings at the latest by 2017.

Of these 56 projects, 33 are offered to the private sector. As typically happens, the private investors are lacking interest in participating in the so called public private partnership projects.

Bastary Pandji Indra, a director for PPP development at  at the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), said investors were unhappy with the complicated process in securing lisences and complex bureaucracy before they can invest in the projects.

The IICE, which as typically takes place at Jakarta Convention Center in Senayan, South Jakarta, is considered the biggest infrastructure conference in Indonesia.

At the forum, investors, business leaders, experts, the government have a chance to share information, exchange views, seeks information as well as finding solution for Indonesia's infrastructure needs.

The IICE is supported by the Coordinating Ministry for Economics Affair. The organizer of the event expected to see around 50,000 visitors from more than 1,000 business delegations at the exhibition where stakeholders in the country's infrastructure sector in Indonesia, including 24 out of the total 34 provincial government in Indonesia, can preview their services, products and projects.

"The government has given strong attention for infrastructure development, so that Indonesia can improve its competitiveness," said the chief economics minister Hatta Rajasa when making opening remark for the three days conference that takes place from Wednesday to Friday (Nov. 13-15).

The administration of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, which will end the job next year after the election, has set an ambitious target since 2011.

It announced the so called Master Plan for Economic Development, known as MP3EI, to push Indonesia to become one of the top 10 economies in the world by 2025 with GDP size of around $4.5 trillion from around $879 billion last year.

The 56 projects above are part of the list of projects in the MP3EI scheme, which splits Indonesia into six economics corridor development:  Sumatera; Java; Kalimantan; Sulawesi-North Maluku; Bali-Nusa Tenggara and Papua-Maluku.
