Talking on the COVID-19, the virus continues to spread in Asia-Pacific countries as India’ tally is approaching 7.95 million and and 36,470 more cases registered during the pas 24 hours. The death toll surged to 119,502, with 488 deaths recorded since Monday morning.
In Indonesia, the task force reported 3,520 newly-confirmed cases on Tuesday. There are 625,857 active cases in the country with the death toll adding by 101 to 13,512 and recovered patients to 322,248. The virus has spread to all the country’ 34 provinces.
Then, Philippines’ department of health reported 1,524 new confirmed cases, bringing the total number in the country to 373,144, 353 more patients recovered and death toll climbed to 7,053. Currently, President Rodrigo Duterte has retained the lockdown in Metro Manila until Nov. 30.
In Malaysia, the new infections registered 835 cases with total positive cases 28,640, death toll 238, and total cured and discharged to 18,499. While, South Korea reported 88 new confirmed cases in the past 24 hours, raising its total tally to 26,043 and the death toll 460.
Still on the COVID-19, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported the daily death rate in Europe was up nearly 40 percent compared to the previous week. France, Spain, Britain, the Netherlands, and Russia accounted for most of the rising cases in the block.
Russia reports a total death toll to 26,589. Italy with 221 deaths and Austria exceeded 1,000, the fourth highest number of positive cases in the world after the US, India and Brazil.
From US, the state department has approved the sale of 100 Boeing Harpoon Coast defense systems to Taiwan with potential revenues up to US$2.3 billion. While, the stimulus package discussion still “deadlock”.
On Tuesday, Indonesian Rupiah closed up 0.17 percent to 14,625 per US Dollar and the Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) strengthened 0.62 percent to 5,144.04 compared to the previous day. In the next few days, said the analysts, investor will take a wait and see stance waiting for the announcement of the US election and the certainty of stimulus has the potential to limit the movement of the both.
However, concerns over the pandemic have again opened up potential weakness in Indonesia’s financial markets.
